….. judge a science fair!
The 2016 Greater New Orleans Science and Engineering Fair (GNOSEF) is being held on Wednesday, February 24th, and we are in need of judges! The fair will be at the University of New Orleans (UNO) Human Performance Center at 2000 Lakeshore Drive and is open to 6th-12th grade students in Orleans, Jefferson, St.
Bernard and Plaquemines parishes. The schedule is the following:
8:00am - 8:30am judges check-in (continental breakfast served)
8:30am - 9:00am judges orientation
9:00am - 12:00pm official category judging (all students will be standing by their projects)
1:00pm - 2:30pm grand award judging (senior division students will be standing by their projects)
Lunch will be provided.
Judges in the senior division are required to have a minimum of a bachelors degree. Undergraduate college students are welcome to help judge the junior division (6th – 8th grade) projects in their degree field.
If you are available to judge, please register online indicating the category or categories that you are willing to judge (categories are listed on the registration form). We will need at least 2 judges for each category and up to 5 or 6 for categories with many entries. Your participation is not only important in determining the winners for the divisions, but also to provide what may be the first opportunity they have had to meet a scientist or an engineer. Many students decide to pursue a career in science or engineering simply due to the interaction they had with a scientist or engineer at an event like the science fair. This is your chance to engage with the K-12 community and make a difference in the life of a middle or high school student. Questions may be addressed to Nancy Hopkins, GNOSEF Category Judge Coordinator.
If you are with an organization sponsoring an award and have questions about judging your award, please contact Frank Bordelon, GNOSEF Special Awards Facilitator.
We hope to see you at the fair.
